The S 350 BlueEFFICIENCY is the most fuel-efficient S-Class ever. Equipped with state-of-the-art common-rail direct injection and a series of other innovations, such as piezo-injectors, the S 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY sets new standards in diesel technology. The maximum torque of 540 Nm is available from a mere 1600 revolutions per minute, producing torque characteristics which are unsurpassed in this displacement class. And the output is an impressive 173 kW (235 hp).
Six cylinders and a balancer shaft ensure exceptionally smooth, quiet operation. In addition, the design is consistently lightweight, a fact that – together with the use of rolling-resistance optimised tyres and improved aerodynamics – is clearly reflected in its (combined) fuel consumption, which averages just 7.6 litres per 100 km (7.7 litres per 100 km in the case of the long-wheelbase version). The standard diesel particulate filter ensures further significant reductions in emissions.
For particularly good roadholding on snow, ice, in rain and on poor road surfaces, the S 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is also available with 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

The present generation of common-rail diesel engines is more agile and powerful than ever before. The S 450 CDI is the top-of-the-line model of the S-Class diesel engines: this V8 diesel engine with a maximum torque of 730 Nm provides sporty power reserves and is characterised by an eager responsiveness.
The 235 kW (320 hp) S 450 CDI already reaches this torque level at 2200 revolutions per minute. Improved airflow characteristics in the air and charge-air cooling as well as in the cylinder head intake ports, combined with an optimised exhaust-gas turbo-charger, ensure excellent power delivery – at the greatest possible smoothness of operation.
