The latest generation of the 4-cylinder petrol engine with 2.0 litres of displacement appeals with its top figures in torque and output. The proven combination of direct injection and turbocharging paired with a further advanced combustion process and on-demand auxiliary systems result in further reduced fuel consumption and emissions.

The following models are available to choose from: E 200 and E 250:

• State-of-the-art technology: direct petrol injection optimises the fuel-air mixture to deliver virtually complete fuel combustion. Variable valve control ensures optimised cylinder charge efficiency. Reduced engine weight as well as lower internal friction also contribute to reducing both consumption and emission levels.
• Environmentally safe and performance-oriented: the new 4-cylinder petrol engines meet stringent consumption and emission standards (Euro 6) but still feature outstanding torque, power output and noise reduction characteristics. And, thanks to two balance shafts, smooth operation as well.
• Efficiency as standard: the ECO start/stop function is standard on both models.

The V6 engines from the BlueDIRECT engine family combine low fuel consumption and correspondingly low CO2 emissions with enhanced dynamic response on a high level. They were developed using lightweight materials throughout and feature stratified petrol injection with piezo injectors, four valves per cylinder as well as adjustable camshafts for the intake and exhaust valves.

The following models are available to choose from: E 300, E 350 and E 400:

• Comprehensive preservation of resources: the energy efficiency of the auxiliary systems has also been improved. Consequently the V6 engines save fuel, reduce CO2 emissions and enhance smooth running characteristics.
• Motoring enjoyment at every engine speed: the engines deliver powerful acceleration even at low engine speeds, displaying great refinement over the entire rev range.
• ECO start/stop function as standard: it reduces fuel consumption and vehicle emissions by switching off the engine when the vehicle is at a standstill. The ECO display in the instrument cluster provides information on the efficiency of one's driving style, thereby motivating the driver to modify his or her driving style to reduce fuel consumption.
• Less achieves more: the new E 400 is equipped with an optimised V6 engine – reduced displacement, two turbochargers and more power with lower emissions and high economic efficiency.

This power plant from the BlueDIRECT engine family offers lower fuel consumption and correspondingly lower emissions than its predecessor. Thanks largely to the lightweight design, downsizing to a displacement of 4.7 litres, direct petrol injection with exceptionally fast and precisely controlled piezo injectors, and the innovative BlueEFFICIENCY technologies.

The new E-Class Coupé is available with the eight-cylinder petrol engine in the guise of the E 500:

• All-around efficiency: the strategic use of lightweight design and displacement downsizing resulted in a reduction in fuel consumption of more than 20 per cent compared with the predecessor engine.
• The BlueDIRECT V8 engine generation is impressive: a multitude of technical highlights such as direct petrol injection, two compact turbochargers and intercooling achieve fast throttle response and optimised thermodynamic efficiency.
• Systematically powerful: the E 500 with BlueDIRECT engine produces 300 kilowatts of power and 600 Newton metres of torque. The integrated ECO stop/start function enables you to save fuel when the vehicle is stationary. The system detects when the engine is not required and automatically switches it off.
