An exceptional result in terms of agility, smoothness of operation, fuel consumption figures and emissions has been achieved by the Mercedes-Benz engineers with the current 4-cylinder diesel engine with two power output levels. It convinces with fat torque and low fuel consumption. Technologies from the BlueEFFICIENCY package were taken for each model in order to achieve the greatest possible degree of environmental friendliness.

The following models are available to choose from: E 220 CDI and E 250 CDI:

• The most advanced technology: common rail diesel technology delivers impressive results, with injection pressure increased to up to 2000 bar, optimised combustion chambers as well as high-precision piezo injectors.¶ Quick start ceramic glow plugs improve the engine's cold-running characteristics.
• Great power and refinement: the strong torque at all engine speeds comes courtesy of high ignition pressure and two-stage forced induction; the required operating smoothness is ensured by two Lanchester balancing shafts.
• Easy on the environment: the ECO start/stop function, for instance, reduces fuel consumption by switching off the engine temporarily when the vehicle is stationary. In addition, the ECO display in the instrument cluster provides information about how efficient the driver's driving style is, prompting them to modify their behaviour and thereby reducing fuel consumption.

The smooth running characteristics together with the low fuel consumption and emissions figures of the 6-cylinder V engine for the E 350 BlueTEC are impressive. BlueTEC stands for measures that optimise fuel consumption, and for the purification and after-treatment of exhaust gases. These help make this diesel engine one of the cleanest diesel engines in the world The results are exemplary low emissions and certification by Euro 6 emission standards.

• Powerful torque: up to 620 Newton metres of torque in the E 350 BlueTEC provide plenty of power reserves already at low engine speeds.
• Precise injection: fast, highly precise injectors are responsible for the engine's efficient, clean performance.
• For the benefit of the environment: BlueTEC catalytic converter technology uses the reactant AdBlue® to purify exhaust gases. This makes it possible to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90 per cent.
