The new CLS Shooting Brake boasts high efficiency with its 6- and 8-cylinder petrol engines from the BlueDIRECT engine family.Thanks to innovative engine technologies such as direct petrol injection and fast, precise-operation injectors, a significant reduction in fuel consumption and emissions has been brought about.

6-cylinder petrol engine The BlueDIRECT V6 engine that powers the CLS 350 BlueEFFICIENCY was developed using lightweight materials consistently. It features spray-guided direct petrol injection with piezo injectors, four valves per cylinder and adjustable intake and exhaust camshafts. Comprehensive conservation of resources. The energy efficiency of the auxiliary systems has also been improved. The CLS 350 BlueEFFICIENCY saves fuel, reduces CO2 emissions and enhances smooth running characteristics. The CLS 350 BlueEFFICIENCY also features the ECO start/stop function. This reduces the vehicle’s fuel consumption and emissions by switching off the engine when the vehicle is at a standstill.
8-cylinder petrol engine The innovative BlueDIRECT V8 engine stands for effortless superiority in every handling situation. The engines from the new BlueDIRECT engine family feature reduced consumption and consequently low emissions . Lightweight materials are used throughout and engine displacement has been lowered (downsizing). The BlueDIRECT V8 engine generation also delivers impressive results with a wealth of technological highlights such as petrol direct injection, two compact turbochargers for swift response and intercooling for optimised thermodynamic efficiency The CLS 500 BlueEFFICIENCY and the CLS 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY with BlueDIRECT engine deliver an output of 300 kW, reaching a maximum torque of 600 Nm. The integrated ECO stop/start system enables you to save fuel when the vehicle is stationary. The function detects when the engine is not required and automatically switches it off.
V8 bi-turbo petrol engine The AMG 5.5 litre V8 biturbo engine in the CLS 63 AMG generates an output of 386 kW and has a maximum torque rating of 700 Nm. Innovative components: The unique combination of high-tech systems, including direct petrol injection, twin turbochargers, energy recuperation when braking and coasting, with the Controlled Efficiency drive mode with ECO stop/start function, ensures an impressive power output and minimum fuel consumption.
